MARAWI CITY, Feb. 28 (PIA) -- The three (3) cooperatives from this city can now have an efficient means and source of livelihood as they received transport and service vehicles from the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) during the 17th Kawiyagan.

As part of the livelihood component of its Rebuilding project, UN-Habitat organized its shelter beneficiaries into homeowner associations or cooperatives and provided them with start-up capital.

Faridah Gundul of the Madayanians Homeowners Agriculture Cooperative shared that the multicab will efficiently facilitate easy movement and transport of farm inputs and harvests from and to the market.

Through the Community Managed Integrated Farming System, Gundul's cooperative is into free-range chicken and vegetable production.

"Nagpapasalamat po ako sa UN-Habitat, sa gobyerno ng Japan at sa iba't ibang government line agency para sa kanilang walang sawang suporta," said Gundul.

[I am grateful to UN-Habitat, to the Japan government and to the different government line agencies for their unwavering support.]

Meanwhile, the Markaz Bandara Ingud HOA Marketing Cooperative received a mini dump truck which they can use as a service vehicle for their business in hauling and delivery of sand and gravel and in hollow blocks making.

Paisal Pangandaman Gubar of this cooperative shared that before the siege, he used to be involved in quarrying business.

"Palagi po tayo manalangin sa ating Allah dahil siya ang nagbibigay ng ating kabuhayan at buhay," said Mustapha.

[We should always pray to Allah since he is the source of our livelihood and life.]

For the 17th Kawiyagan, various member-agencies of Task Force Bangon Marawi along with partner organizations have provided different livelihood assistance to the affected communities.

Kawiyagan, a Meranao term for livelihood, is a monthly distribution of livelihood launched in August 2018. (LEAntonio/ PIA ICIC)
