BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

YANGON -- Myanmar reported 216 new infection cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday morning, said a daily release from the Health and Sports Ministry.

With the newly confirmed cases, the number of laboratory confirmed cases rose to 6,959.

The death toll of COVID-19 also increased to 116 after a 43-year-old patient died, the release said.

ADDIS ABABA -- The Ethiopian Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced that the country's total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases hit 70,422 after 713 new cases were reported on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, the number of COVID-19 related deaths in the East African country reached 1,127 as of Tuesday, after 19 new COVID-19 related deaths were reported during the last 24-hours period.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon's total number of COVID-19 cases crossed the 30,000 mark on Tuesday amid a rapid resurgence of the pandemic.

The tally of coronavirus infections in Lebanon surged to 30,838 after 851 new cases were recorded, while the death toll went up by eight to 315, the Lebanese Health Ministry said.

AMMAN -- Jordan on Tuesday reported 634 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily spike in the country so far, raising the tally of confirmed cases to 5,679.

The new cases included 627 local infections, including 273 in the capital Amman, 120 in Balqa, 92 in Zarqa, 52 in Maan, 31 in Irbid, 29 in Karak, 17 in Madaba, six in Mafraq, five in Jerash, one each in Ajloun and Tafilah, Health Minister Saad Jaber said in a statement.

DUBAI -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday announced 852 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 86,447.

And 939 more patients have recovered from the virus, taking the tally of recoveries in the UAE to 76,025, UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention said.

It has reported no death from COVID-19 during the past 24 hours. The nationwide death toll stands at 405.

BEIJING -- No new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported Tuesday across the Chinese mainland, the National Health Commission said Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 10 confirmed COVID-19 cases arriving from outside the mainland were reported, the commission said in its daily report.

No new suspected COVID-19 cases or new deaths related to the disease were reported, the commission said.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday slammed the Trump administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and urged the Republicans to support the House Democrats' 3-trillion-U.S.-dollar relief bill to blunt the economic fallout.

"Republicans must accept the gravity of this crisis & vote on the science-based strategy in the #HeroesAct, which passed the House more than four months ago," Pelosi said in a tweet, referring to the 3-trillion-dollar relief bill drafted by House Democrats.
