LUBA, Abra, Nov. 24(PIA) - "Dara ay kaykayngaan, inka kad ya iparaman, biag di ib-a silpuwan."(Share your precious blood so that the lives of others maybe prolonged)
With this principle, the local government unit (LGU) here recently hosted a mobile blood drive (MBD) collecting a total of 78 units of blood from donors from the different barangays and personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Municipal Police Station, 24th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army and the Rural Health Unit.
Mayor Rosalina Biscarra said in an interview that this is an initiative of LGU in promoting voluntary blood donations among the people of Luba.
Luba Rural Health Unit Medical Health Officer Dr. Anthea Gabaoen said every donor will go through a medical screening before proceeding to the donation process.
"Our donors will be examined on their body temperature, pulse, blood pressure and hemoglobin level to ensure that they are fit to donate," she said. The whole blood donation takes about 8-10 minutes.
The LGU partnered with the Provincial Health Office, Philippine Red Cross Abra Chapter, RHU, Philippine Association of Medical Technologists -Abra chapter and the Provincial Department of Health Office.
Provincial Blood Program Coordinator Lilibeth Bigornia-Martin continues to advocate voluntary blood donation to all able-bodied people and to all LGUs.
"I encourage all the LGUs to support the mobile blood donation program and advocate voluntary blood donation among their constituents. If we make MBD a routine in every municipality, there will be enough supply of blood in the province," she said. (JDP/CAGT - PIA CAR, Abra)
