BANGUED, Abra, Jan. 22(PIA) - The Department of Education (DepEd)-Abra Schools Division Office (SDO) promotes voluntary blood donation among its personnel and stakeholders through its bloodletting project dubbed as "Salinbuhay".

During the first Salinbuhay mass blood donation activity in January 18, a total of 22 units of blood were collected. This was conducted in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross-Abra Chapter led by Administrator Ivy Venus Avendano.

Senior Education Specialist Jan Nowel Pena explained that the Salinbuhay aims to address the growing concerns of DepEd teachers who are under medications such as those are undergoing dialysis, chemotherapy, caesarian delivery, on their possible need for blood. This project provides them better access to blood in times of needs.

Salinbuhay is a Filipino slang for "Pagsalin ng Buhay" which is used to described how a person can save the life of others by donating blood.

"We'll try to implement the Salinbuhay quarterly in order to facilitate more blood donations to help achieve an adequate supply of blood in the province," Pena said.

Part of this event is also Abra SDO's renewal of vows to its committed partners and stakeholders in the delivery of basic education services for all Abrenian learners.

Partners present during the event were Philippine Dental Association-Abra Chapter, the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, GLOC215-Abra Chapter, St. Francis Vision Care Center, Abra Medical Diagnostic Center and other stakeholders. (JDP/CAGT PIA CAR, Abra)
