MOUNTAIN VIEW, California: Some 20 percent of Google's staff will continue to work remotely after the offices reopen in the fall, according to officials.

Additionally, an expected 60 percent will work three days in the office and two days "wherever they work best."

The remaining 20 percent of workers will be allowed to transfer to different Google offices.

The work practices will apply in Google's international offices as well as its Mountain View, California headquarters.

A large percentage of Google's offshore employees and contractors are stationed in Ireland. The company's offices in Dublin employ some 8,000 staff, executives, and contractors.

"The future of work is flexibility," CEO Sundar Pichai wrote in an email. "The changes above are a starting point to help us do our very best work and have fun doing it."

The majority of Google's 135,000 employees are expected to continue to work from home through September.

Additionally, for 20 days per year Google employees will be allowed to work from any location, other than their main office.

At the outset of the pandemic, Google was one of the first companies to allow employees to work from home.

Facebook and Twitter have also announced that their staff can work from home permanently if their jobs allow for it.
