NEW YORK, 24th September, 2022 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Sima Bahous, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the UAE Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, the two sides discussed the agenda of women's empowerment and gender equality and the importance of the societal role in this regard.
The two sides reviewed the efforts of the UAE in the areas of women's empowerment, and the joint cooperation between the UN Women and the UAE, including the UN Women Liaison Office for the GCC in Abu Dhabi.
They also discussed the role of women in preventing and resolving conflicts and building peace, within the framework of the "Fatima bint Mubarak Women, Peace and Security Initiative", which is implemented in partnership with UN Women.
The meeting was attended by Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; and Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations.
