Fujairah to host World Taekwondo Cadet Championships 2025 on May 10

FUJAIRAH, 9th May, 2025 (WAM) -- Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, the Emirate of Fujairah is set to host the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships 2025 from 10th to 14th May.

The Higher Organising Committee of the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships 2025, together with representatives from World Taekwondo, announced during a press conference held in Fujairah that the championship will take place at Zayed Sports Complex and will witness record participation of 811 athletes aged between 12 and 14 from 93 countries.

The championships will feature ten weight categories for male and female athletes, ranging from under 33 kilograms to over 65 kilograms in the men's category, and under 29 kilograms to over 59 kilograms in the women's.

The Higher Organising Committee also noted the inclusion of the World Taekwondo Refugee Team, Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN), and athletes competing under the World Taekwondo flag as a significant aspect of the event.

Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee, President of the UAE Taekwondo Federation, and a member of World Taekwondo, stated that hosting the championship in Fujairah is in line with the vision of the Crown Prince of Fujairah to enhance the emirate's standing as a global sports hub. He emphasised that all preparations have been completed to the highest standards to deliver an exceptional tournament that reflects the UAE's prestigious image.

Dr. Al Zeyoudi added, "We are proud of this achievement and will work closely with all our partners to ensure the success of the championship in every aspect."

For his part, Dr. Choue Chung-won, President of World Taekwondo, expressed his great pleasure in selecting Fujairah to host this prominent global event, citing the UAE's advanced infrastructure and strong support for sports as ideal foundations for major international competitions.

He said, "The World Taekwondo Cadet Championships 2025 in Fujairah is the largest of its kind globally, featuring more than 800 athletes. The inclusion of a refugee team brings a humanitarian dimension, conveying a noble message that transcends competitive boundaries."

He further highlighted that the tournament serves as a vital platform for discovering young talent and enhancing the global stature of taekwondo by uniting diverse cultures under one sport.

Also commenting, Nader Abu Shawish, Event Director of the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships 2025, stated, "The Higher Organising Committee is proud to play a central role in hosting this event. We believe it will significantly contribute to the development of our local players by providing them the opportunity to compete with future world champions. Our aim is to offer a unique sporting experience for all our guests and showcase the young talent within the UAE."
